Description
A cooperative board game of farming and friendship based on the Stardew Valley video game. Work together with your fellow farmers to save the Valley from the nefarious Joja Corporation! To do this, you’ll need to farm, fish, friend and find all kinds of different resources to fulfill Grandpa’s Goals and restore the Community Center. Collect all kinds of items, raise animals, and explore the Mine. Gain powerful upgrades and skills, and as the seasons pass, do your best to protect the magic of Stardew Valley! COMPLEXITY of the GAME It’s really important to us that as a buyer you understand Stardew Valley: The Board Game is not a casual quick game. While it is easy to play once you know the rules, it’s meant to be challenging. We wanted an experience with depth and replayability. If your game group or family prefers short playtimes (less than 45 minutes) with a small number of rules and components, this game might not be a good fit.
Christopher McHugh –
This is a cozy cooperative board game that sits 1 – 4 people. It is a long game and is a bit complex, not like the video game but over all the designers did a really good job to capture the spirit of stardew valley in a board game. The objective of the game is to meet a specific number of goals and restore the community center in a fixed number of turns. There a lot of different goals so the replayability is high and the goals can be easy as grow x amount of crops or hard as catching every legendary fish.
That said there are some critiques I have with the game.
Like with a lot of cooperative games, this game can have his fair share of quarterbacking, meaning you can have one person telling everyone what they need to do to achieve the goal and not really allowing the individuals to make their own choices or being able to discuss their thoughts.
Also, each player gets a specific specialty at the start of the game, just a buffer in a specific element of the game, crop growing, fishing for example. If you do not have a goal that relates to your specialty or the goal/ community center objective that does relate to your specialty has been met, you are kind of thrown to the mines and just have to go/do what you need to do to achieve the other goals. It can be a bit off putting as for me personally, does not feel like I was playing the game after that point.
That said, if you want a cozy night in and want to sit down for two plus hours with yourself or some friends and not take things seriously, this is a great game. It’s a good game to play if you want to socialize why you play.
